CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 272-240 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.00 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet and necklace. Rev. Herakles standing front, head to left, on his left leg, wielding club in his right hand and placing his right knee on the back of the Nemean lion, whom he holds by the tail; below, owl standing left, head facing. HN Italy 1065. Vlasto 1431-1435 corr. (owl omitted). Beautifully toned and with an unusual rendering of Herakles' First Labor. Minor old scratch on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
